As a home education teacher specializing in math, my decade-long journey has been fueled by two core beliefs: mastering the basics and honing skills through actual exam question practice. Offering free live lessons and worksheets, I've dedicated myself to transforming how students engage with math, moving beyond the classroom to a more interactive and accessible online platform.
The Philosophy Behind My Teaching
Math, in its essence, requires a foundation built on understanding basic principles. This is why in my free live lessons, we tackle specific topics with carefully designed worksheets before diving into real exam questions. It's a method that solidifies foundational knowledge and prepares students for the complexities of actual exams.
While many students excel with worksheets on a given topic, I've observed that they often lose when faced with real exam questions. This gap led me to meticulously categorize past exam questions by topic, ensuring a seamless transition from learning concepts to applying them in exam-like scenarios.
Why Real Exam Questions?
Textbook problems, even those from esteemed publishers, sometimes fail to capture the nuance and challenge of exam questions. This discrepancy is why I focus on actual exam questions in my teaching. It gives students a realistic understanding of what to expect, thereby reducing surprises and building confidence.
The Role of Video Assistance in Learning Math
Another cornerstone of my teaching approach is integrating video help with all worksheets. Math, unlike science, demands a deep comprehension of each step involved in solving problems—a challenge often best addressed through visual explanation. Whether through live tutoring or detailed video explanations, this approach has proven effective in demystifying complex math problems, catering to the diverse learning needs of students. An example of this is seen below
Tailoring Education to Individual Needs
Recognizing that each student has a unique capacity for understanding math, I've had the privilege of teaching a wide age range, including 10-year-olds tackling GCSE or IGCSE higher math. This experience underscores the importance of personalized teaching strategies that adapt to the individual learner's strengths and weaknesses.
Recommended Math Resources
In pursuit of providing comprehensive support, I recommend a variety of resources to complement our live lessons and worksheets. These resources are curated to reinforce learning, offer additional practice, and expose students to various mathematical problems and solutions.
KS3 and GCSE Maths
CGP
Great workbooks and exam-style question workbooks. GCSE exam-style question workbooks and workbooks sometimes do questions that are pretty far from what is expected in the real exams. I would suggest using the workbooks and exam-style workbooks, but ensure your revision has plenty of real exam-style questions split by topics.
Questions split by topics, with worked solutions. Sometimes questions are too easy compared to real exam-style questions. As I believe these questions were created based on the old GCSE syllabus, which is considerably easier than the new syllabus, however, it is a great resource
Similar to MathsGenie, it has additional questions, with worked solutions, for free.

Real exam-style questions are split by topics and exam boards. You need to pay for the questions and worked solutions.
Worksheet generator, a lot of variety, comes with answers, some with worked solutions. This is a paid resource, around £35 a year. Not all worksheets have worked solutions, nor do they have explanations.
Free worksheet generator, not much variety, but good for a free resource.
